Chocolate spreads are a household favorite, but most store-bought options are loaded with sugar and unhealthy fats.
As a mom, preschool teacher and a chocolate lover, I’m always on the lookout for nutritious and fun recipes that kids love. That’s why I created this Healthy Chocolate Almond Spread!
It’s creamy, chocolatey, and packed with wholesome ingredients, making it perfect for breakfast, snacks, or even dessert. Bonus: it’s kid-approved! 🥰
Let’s dive into how you can make this easy, nutrient-rich spread at home.
Ingredients:
1 cup almonds (roasted for that nutty flavor)
2 tablespoons avocado oil (for a smooth texture)
2 ounces dark chocolate (melted, at least 70% cocoa for a rich taste)
2 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened for added chocolate goodness)
1-2 tablespoons monk fruit sweetener (adjust to your preferred sweetness)
How to make it:
Roast the Almonds:
Begin by roasting the almonds in a dry pan over medium heat. Stir occasionally for 5-7 minutes until they release a warm, nutty aroma. Roasting enhances their flavor and makes blending easier.
Blend the Almonds:
While the almonds are still warm, transfer them to a food processor. Blend on high until they break down into a smooth almond butter. This may take a few minutes, so be patient and scrape down the sides as needed.
Add the Chocolatey Goodness:
Melt the dark chocolate gently in the microwave or on the stovetop. Add the melted chocolate, cocoa powder, avocado oil, and monk fruit sweetener to the food processor.
Blend to Perfection:
Continue blending until everything is well combined, and the mixture is creamy. Adjust the sweetness or consistency as needed, add a touch more oil for a smoother spread or an extra pinch of monk fruit for a sweeter taste.
Store and Enjoy:
Transfer your spread into a clean, airtight jar. Store it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks (if it lasts that long!). Bring it to room temperature before spreading for the best consistency.
Serving Ideas for kids:
Spread it on whole-grain toast for a quick breakfast.
Use it as a dip for apple slices, banana coins, or strawberries.
Drizzle it over pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal for a special treat.
Make a “chocolate almond sandwich” with two crackers or mini rice cakes.
This recipe has quickly become a family favorite in our home. It’s simple to make, healthy, and versatile. Try it out, and let me know in the comments how your little ones enjoy it! 😊
